Daily ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz declined for three straights days from Friday, according to data released by maritime data firm Kpler on Monday.

According to Kpler, 23 vessels passed through the key waterway on Friday, 11 transited on Saturday and only nine on Sunday.

Data showed that of the nine vessels that passed through the strait on Sunday, seven used the Iranian route.

Meanwhile, the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, the southern gateway to the Red Sea, recorded 30 ship transits on Sunday, with 20 ships leaving the Red Sea and 10 entering. The number of vessels sailing with automatic identification systems turned off fell to one, according to Kpler.

Kpler warned that until clear navigation arrangements are reached between the relevant parties, shipping operators should continue to consider the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait as contested chokepoints rather than normalized shipping routes.
