Seismic activity continues to rattle Kumamoto Prefecture in southwestern Japan, with the national weather agency reporting more than 590 locally felt earthquakes since a powerful quake hit late last month.

According to statistics released by the Japan Meteorological Agency, a total of 591 felt earthquakes had been recorded in the area as of 10:00 local time on Monday.

The agency said earthquake activity in the region remains elevated and urged residents to stay on alert for approximately the next month. Officials cautioned that tremors reaching a maximum intensity of lower 5 or greater on Japan's seismic scale remain possible during this period.
