A powerful earthquake that struck western Colombia on Monday has forced the temporary suspension of operations at several airports across the South American country, leading to massive flight cancellations and delays.

At Bogota's El Dorado International Airport, the country's busiest hub, hundreds of passengers were left stranded as travel plans were thrown into chaos.

Long queues formed at check-in and rebooking counters, with many travelers anxiously scanning flight information displays for updates. According to the departure board, multiple flights to western cities such as Pereira and Cali which are closer to the epicenter had been either canceled or indefinitely delayed.

"We are waiting for them to get us another flight to Medellin instead of Pereira. Our booked flight was supposed to leave at 11:50, but it's canceled. We have another one for Wednesday, but we can't take it because we don't know what the situation is like in Armenia or Pereira," said a traveler.

"We have just arrived from Madrid. We just got here and heard the news of the earthquake. We planned to travel tomorrow to Pereira and stay in Colombia for 15 days, but have to look for an alternative to our original route. The earthquake has disrupted our plan," said another traveler.

The death toll from the magnitude 7.5 earthquake that struck western Colombia on Monday has risen to 132, with more than 570 others injured, the Colombian government said in its latest update.

According to the preliminary report, 32 cities across the country have been seriously affected, while five departmental capitals -- Pereira, Cali, Quibdo, Manizales and Armenia -- remain under red alert. Pereira reported 60 deaths, followed by Cali with 15, Quibdo with eight and Manizales with four, the report said.

Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella said earlier that the government had declared a state of national disaster to respond to the impact of the earthquake.

Un puissant séisme a frappé l’ouest de la Colombie lundi, entraînant la suspension temporaire des opérations dans plusieurs aéroports et provoquant de nombreuses annulations et retards.

À l’aéroport international El Dorado de Bogota, le principal du pays, des centaines de passagers se sont retrouvés bloqués. De longues files d’attente se sont formées aux comptoirs, de nombreux voyageurs scrutant les écrans d’affichage. Plusieurs vols à destination de villes proches de l’épicentre, comme Pereira et Cali, ont été annulés ou reportés à une date ultérieure.

Selon le dernier bilan du gouvernement colombien, le séisme de magnitude 7,5 a fait 132 morts et plus de 570 blessés. Le rapport préliminaire indique que 32 villes ont été gravement touchées, tandis que cinq chefs-lieux de département – Pereira, Cali, Quibdó, Manizales et Armenia – restent en alerte rouge. Pereira déplore 60 décès, Cali 15, Quibdó huit et Manizales quatre.

Le président colombien, Abelardo de la Espriella, avait annoncé que le gouvernement avait décrété l’état de catastrophe nationale pour faire face aux conséquences du séisme.

Varios vuelos nacionales a ciudades occidentales como Pereira y Cali, más cercanas al epicentro del terremoto, fueron cancelados o retrasados indefinidamente, según la información de vuelos.

"Estamos esperando que nos consigan otro vuelo a Medellín para cambiar el destino final. El vuelo salía a las 11:50, pero está cancelado, pero tenemos otro para el miércoles, pero no podemos tomarlo, porque no sabemos cómo están las cosas en Armenia o en Pereira", dijo un viajero.

Colombia declaró el lunes el estado de desastre nacional tras el terremoto que sacudió el oeste del país durante la mañana de ese mismo día. Hasta la fecha, se han contabilizado más de 130 personas fallecidas en todo el territorio y más de 570 heridas. Se cree que la cifra de muertos aumentará con el paso de las horas, debido a que hay reportes de personas atrapadas bajo los escombros.
