Persistent high temperatures and droughts are likely to cause a noticeable drop in Germany's agricultural output this year, with both crop yields and livestock production under mounting pressure, the German Farmers' Association said on Friday.
Joachim Rukwied, President of the German Farmers' Association, said the production of wheat and rapeseed is likely to fall below the average level this year, and considerable losses are expected in autumn crops, including corn and soybeans.
He said the situation is most acute in southern Germany, where farmers face the risk of total crop failure in some areas.
High temperatures and droughts have already led to a sharp decline in fodder crop yields, which in turn impacts animal husbandry operations, said Rukwied.
