China does not oppose normal cooperation between the United States and the Philippines, but maintains that such cooperation should not target any third party or harm the interests of third parties, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said Tuesday.
Speaking in a press briefing in Beijing, Lin made the remarks in response to a media query that the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines announced days earlier that it had launched a center in Palawan to help Philippine fishermen report suspected illegal fishing activities.
Lin said, "We have noted the relevant reports and will closely follow the situation. China has consistently believed that exchanges and cooperation between countries should help enhance mutual understanding and trust among countries in the region and be conducive to promoting regional peace and stability. We do not oppose normal cooperation carried out between the United States and the Philippines, but such cooperation should not target any third party or harm the interests of any third party."
