A cultural exchange event celebrating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Egypt was held in Cairo on Tuesday, offering a platform to unveil a series of media and film cooperation achievements that highlight the deepening cultural ties and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi sent a congratulatory letter to the event.

The event, co-hosted by the China Media Group (CMG) and Egypt's Ministry of State for Information, took place ahead of the Chinese President Xi Jinping's arrival in Cairo on Tuesday evening for a state visit to the Arab country.

Multiple media cooperation achievements were announced at the event. CMG and Egyptian Television announced the launch of a co-produced documentary that will focus on the remarkable achievements of China-Egypt cooperation in areas such as economic and trade cooperation, engineering projects, people-to-people exchanges, and mutual learning between civilizations, presenting a vivid picture of the ever-deepening friendship between the two countries and highlighting the profound foundation of China-Egypt relations as a model of friendly cooperation among nations.

Another documentary produced by the China Global Television Network (CGTN) under CMG, "The Story I Found in China," will soon be aired on Egyptian state television. The documentary features the renowned Egyptian actor and Cairo International Film Festival president Hussein Fahmy as the narrator and the observer, who engages in dialogue with nine ordinary Chinese people to offer Egyptian audiences an in-depth look at a real, multifaceted and comprehensive China.

CGTN also initiated a documentary-style interview program which will invite prominent Egyptian media professionals to travel to Beijing, Sichuan, and other locations for on-site visits and filming. Through immersive exploration and in-depth conversations, they will dive deep into the driving forces and underlying stories behind Chinese modernization.

With support from the China Film Administration, a Chinese film screening event was launched. Egyptian actors Sherif Sobhy and Omar Sherif who played roles in a hit Chinese anti-war film "Once Upon a Time in the Middle East" shared their experiences of working on the production.

To further deepen China-Egypt cooperation in the film industry, CMG and the Cairo International Film Festival have reached an intention to strengthen collaboration and exchanged a memorandum of understanding on enhanced cooperation.

A program on China-Arab friendship, jointly produced by CMG and the Arab League Secretariat, was also presented at the event. It records stories of people-to-people bonds between China and Arab countries and will be broadcast on mainstream media outlets in Arab states.

More than 100 guests from political, economic, cultural and media circles of both countries attended the event.
