U.S. nonfarm payrolls increased by 162,000 in August, according to data released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, far surpassing market expectations of around 55,000 new jobs.
The unemployment rate held at 4.1 percent for the month.
Economists described the current labor market as steady but unremarkable.
Meanwhile, several Federal Reserve officials have indicated in recent remarks that inflation remains a greater concern than the job market.
