Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation on Tuesday that lasted "exactly one hour" and was "constructive and quite frank," said Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov.

Ushakov said that during the one-hour call, the Russian and U.S. presidents exchanged views in a mutually respectful and pragmatic manner on the outcomes of the recent U.S. delegation's visits to Russia and Ukraine.

They positively assessed the results of the U.S. delegation's visit to Russia and indicated that they would continue to maintain communication through such channels, Ushakov said.

Ushakov said the conversation centered on resolving the conflict in Ukraine, adding that Trump "directly communicated the desirability of bringing the conflict to an end as soon as possible, as it would immediately open up prospects -- impressive and far-reaching ones at that -- for the full restoration of relations between the United States and Russia. In his view, this would have a particular impact on trade and economic ties, promising huge benefits for both nations."

"Donald Trump is keen to see a breakthrough achieved during his presidency," Ushakov noted.

Ushakov also said that Putin objectively analyzed the progress of the special military operation and the prospects for achieving its objectives during the call, and pointed out what practical measures the United States could take to expedite its conclusion.

Putin emphasized that Russia has no plans of aggression against Europe, and "the circulated myths about the Russian threat serve as a pretext for Europeans to ramp up their support for Ukraine and their own military expenses", Ushakov said.

Ushakov concluded by saying that the Russian and U.S. presidents agreed to remain committed to resolving humanitarian issues, including the exchange of detained and sentenced persons.

He noted that "the conversation proceeded in an upbeat tone," and that the Russian and U.S presidents agreed to maintain contact and speak promptly if needed.
