The U.S. Treasury Department on Thursday announced new sanctions on individuals and entities tied to Iran, targeting the financial lifelines of Iran's "proxy networks" in the Middle East.
In a statement, the Treasury Department said the move is part of its ongoing campaign for the economic isolation of Iran. The department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has officially added various individuals and entities to its sanctions list for providing support to Iranian "proxy groups", including members of Lebanon's Hezbollah.
On Aug 24, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that the United States was launching a new round of sanctions aimed at the economic isolation of Iran to ramp up pressure on it.
