A Chinese envoy on Thursday urged the United States to renounce the use or threated use of force in pursuing a political settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue through diplomacy.

Repeated hostilities in the Middle East have caused serious harm and losses to the peoples of countries in the region, including Iran, while the spillover effects continue to expand, undermining common interests of the international community, said Sun Lei, China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations.

The parties concerned should renounce the use or threatened use of force, resume implementation of the U.S.-Iran Memorandum of Understanding as soon as possible, and bring the Iranian nuclear issue back onto the track of a political and diplomatic solution, he said at a U.N. Security Council briefing on the issue.

"The United States' unilateral withdrawal from the comprehensive Iranian nuclear agreement, its use of force against Iran twice during the negotiation process, and its push for the policy of exerting maximum pressure on Iran are the main causes why the current situation in the Middle East and the Iranian nuclear issue remain complex and difficult to resolve. China has always stood on the side of peace, on the side of dialogue, and on the right side of history. As a participant in the Iran nuclear deal and a permanent member of the Security Council, China will continue to work with all other parties and make unremitting efforts to advance a political settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue, uphold the international nuclear non-proliferation regime, and promote peace and stability in the Middle East, according to the Chinese envoy.

Sun Lei, représentant permanent adjoint de la Chine auprès des Nations unies, a appelé jeudi à un règlement politique de la question nucléaire iranienne par la voie diplomatique.

Les hostilités répétées au Moyen-Orient ont causé de graves préjudices et pertes aux populations des pays de la région, y compris l'Iran, tandis que les répercussions continuent de s'étendre, portant atteinte aux intérêts communs de la communauté internationale, a-t-il déclaré.

Les parties concernées devraient renoncer à l'usage ou à la menace de la force, reprendre dès que possible la mise en œuvre du mémorandum d'entente entre les États-Unis et l'Iran, et ramener la question nucléaire iranienne sur la voie d'une solution politique et diplomatique, a-t-il recommandé lors d'une réunion d'information du Conseil de sécurité de l'ONU consacrée à cette question.

Ein chinesischer Gesandter hat die Vereinigten Staaten am Donnerstag aufgefordert, auf die Anwendung oder Androhung von Gewalt zu verzichten und eine politische Lösung der iranischen Atomfrage auf diplomatischem Wege anzustreben.

Wiederholte Feindseligkeiten im Nahen Osten hätten den Völkern der Länder der Region, einschließlich Irans, schweren Schaden und Verluste zugefügt, während die Ausstrahlungseffekte sich weiter ausbreiteten und die gemeinsamen Interessen der internationalen Gemeinschaft beeinträchtigten, sagte Sun Lei, stellvertretender Ständiger Vertreter Chinas bei den Vereinten Nationen.

Die betroffenen Parteien sollten auf die Anwendung oder Androhung von Gewalt verzichten, die Umsetzung des amerikanisch-iranischen Absichtserklärung (MoU) so bald wie möglich wieder aufnehmen und die iranische Atomfrage zurück auf den Weg einer politischen und diplomatischen Lösung bringen, sagte er bei einer Unterrichtung des UN-Sicherheitsrates über iranische Atomfrage.
