Chinese President Xi Jinping's attendance at the BRICS summit in India is of strategic significance for steering the high-quality development for greater BRICS cooperation.
Xi attended the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, the capital of India, from Saturday to Sunday, at the invitation of Prime Minister of the Republic of India Narendra Modi.
Upon arriving at New Delhi's Palam Air Force Station on Saturday, Xi received a warm welcome from senior Indian officials.
The Chinese president attended the Session I of the summit on Saturday and delivered an important speech titled "Jointly Shouldering the Responsibility of the Times and Striving to Be a Pioneering Force."
In his speech, Xi highlighted that this year marks the 20th anniversary of BRICS cooperation, saying that over the past two decades, the BRICS cooperation mechanism has continued to grow and expand, and has demonstrated remarkable vitality and dynamism.
Xi said it has been 20 years of self-reliance and self-strengthening, standing together through thick and thin, and fruitful outcomes.
He said that BRICS countries should firmly stand on the right side of history, strive to be a pioneer of the times, steer the international order toward greater justice and equity, and work together to build a community with a shared future for humanity.
Xi called on BRICS to pioneer in advancing innovation-driven development, upholding peace and stability, facilitating mutual learning between civilizations, and reforming and improving global governance.
China, Xi said, will take over as the rotating chair of the BRICS and host the 19th summit next year.
The Chinese side stands ready to work with all parties to build consensus, create a better future, and usher in BRICS' third "golden decade", jointly opening up a bright future of prosperity and progress, he added.
The leaders of BRICS countries adopted a joint declaration at the summit. They also visited a picture exhibition marking the 20th anniversary of the establishment of BRICS, planted trees together, and posed for group photos.
On the sidelines of the summit, Xi and Modi conducted a candid and in-depth exchange of views.
Xi attended Session II of the summit on Sunday and delivered an important speech titled "Cementing the Foundation for BRICS Cooperation and Bolstering the Strength of the Global South."
In his speech, the Chinese leader proposed five initiatives on "greater BRICS" cooperation in areas of AI, trade and investment facilitation, digital industry, smart manufacturing, and talent development.
Before the session, Xi joined other leaders for group photos.
After concluding his participation, Xi departed from New Delhi on Sunday noon, with senior Indian officials seeing him off at the airport.
