"In the first eight months of this year, China's foreign trade continued to show a strong performance, with total imports and exports reaching 34.8 trillion yuan (about 5.15 trillion U.S. dollars), up 17.6 percent year on year. To be specific, exports increased by 14.6 percent and imports rose by 22 percent. The growth rate of imports was significantly higher than that of exports."

In the first eight months of 2026, China's foreign trade was up 17.6 percent year on year, an official of the Ministry of Commerce said on Friday.
At a press conference in Beijing, Yang Tao, director general of the ministry's Department of Foreign Trade, briefed the media on China's foreign trade from January to August.
"In the first eight months of this year, China's foreign trade continued to show a strong performance, with total imports and exports reaching 34.8 trillion yuan (about 5.15 trillion U.S. dollars), up 17.6 percent year on year. To be specific, exports increased by 14.6 percent and imports rose by 22 percent. The growth rate of imports was significantly higher than that of exports," said Yang.
