Profits of China's industrial firms above designated size increased 15.7 percent year on year during the first eight months of 2026, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed on Monday.
These industrial firms, each with an annual main business revenue of at least 20 million yuan (about 2.97 million U.S. dollars), saw their combined profits reach over 5.27 trillion yuan in the January-August period, according to the data.
Among them, state-holding enterprises realized a total profit of over 1.67 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.3 percent; share-holding enterprises' total profit reached more than 4.07 trillion yuan, up 20.4 year on year; enterprises funded by foreign investors and investors from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan saw their total profit rise by 2.3 percent to nearly 1.18 trillion yuan; and private enterprises accomplished a total profit of more than 1.32 trillion yuan, an increase of 10.4 percent.
From January to August, China's mining industry achieved a total profit of over 766 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 35.1 percent; and the manufacturing industry's total profit increased by 17.4 percent to almost 3.97 trillion yuan; while the production and supply of electricity, heat power, gas and water realized a total profit of over 536 billion yuan, a decrease of 12 percent year on year.
In the January-August period, the profit of the manufacture of computers, communication equipment and other electronic equipment increased by 1.1 times year on year, that of the smelting and pressing of non-ferrous metals increased by 82.9 percent, that of the mining and washing of coal increased by 51.6 percent, and that of the manufacture of raw chemical materials and chemical products increased by 51 percent.
During the period, the profit of the extraction of petroleum and natural gas increased by 17 percent year on year, that of the textile industry rose by 11.9 percent, while that of the manufacture of automobiles decreased by 16 percent, and that of the smelting and pressing of ferrous metals fell by 62.4 percent.
From January to August, China's industrial enterprises above the designated size achieved a business revenue of 93.09 trillion yuan, up 6.6 percent from one year earlier, and the profit rate of business revenue was 5.66 percent, up 0.44 percentage points.
In August, these industrial enterprises' profits increased by 4.2 percent year on year.
