Massive crowds have gathered in Sanaa, the Houthi-controlled capital of Yemen, and other areas held by the Houthi group on Friday to voice support for Palestine and the group.
In southern Sanaa, large crowds of demonstrators were seen holding flags up to the sky and chanting slogans to show their support for Palestine as the latest round of the Gaza conflict marked its third anniversary on Wednesday.
The participants also expressed their support for the Houthis as the group have recently launched strikes against the Yemeni government forces supported by the Saudi-led Arab coalition and attacked Saudi Arabia.
Yemen has been mired in conflict since late 2014, when the Houthi group seized the capital Sanaa and much of northern Yemen. A Saudi-led coalition intervened in 2015 in support of the internationally recognized Yemeni government, which is now based in the southern port city of Aden.
The renewed fighting marked a major escalation after a UN-brokered truce in 2022 largely halted major hostilities.
Analysts said that the situation in Yemen is becoming increasingly complex, as neither side has achieved a decisive military victory and the peaceful political process has failed to gain acceptance among the parties. They warned that Yemen's humanitarian, economic and social conditions may continue to deteriorate, and that the involvement of regional and international powers in Yemeni affairs will persist, further affecting regional stability.
